Gems : Apatite

Apatite is a common mineral in a wide and attractive range of colours – white, pink, yellow, green, blue, and violet. In non-gem quality, very large crystals occur, often weighing up to several hundredweight. Clear, gem quality crystals, though, are quite scarce and always small. Apatite is too soft to be commonly used in jewellery, especially rings. It sometimes has a cat’s eye effect, called chatoyancy.
