Gems : Andalusite

Andalusite is an attractive and unusual gemstone, first discovered in Andalucia, Southern Spain, which is where it gets its name. Its hardness makes it suitable for jewellery, but it’s seldom seen in jewellery. This is probably because it’s quite rare, and most people, even in the jewellery industry, have never heard of it, let alone seen it!
Many andalusites display different colours within the same stone. The typical colours are green, brown, red, greenish-brown, and brownish-green. As well as Andalucia, it’s found in Brazil, Sri Lanka, Siberia, Brittany, Australia and the USA. Small non-gem crystals are also found in Cumbria.
