Gems : Amber
Amber is an organic gemstone, which is actually the fossilized resin of pine trees, including the now extinct pinus succinifera. Depending on the source, it’s between about 20 and 60 million years old.
Surprisingly light and warm to the touch, amber produces static electricity when you rub it. In fact, the ancient Greeks called it elektron, which is where the words ‘electron’ and ‘electricity’ come from. The metal electrum was also named for its amber colour. Amber is usually found in honey-like colours, from golden yellow, through rich orange and red to brown. However, some amber can be white, blue, green or dark brown almost to black.
